The National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Suleiman Abba, have refuted reports that they had ordered the arrest of the embattled Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal.
The purported arrest order, the reports had suggested, was in connection with the crisis that rocked the National Assembly on Thursday, when attempted to stop Tambuwal from gaining access to the House’s chambers, where he was scheduled to preside over sitting, to deliberate on President Goodluck Jonathan’s request for the extension of the state of emergency imposed on three North East states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.
However, both the NSA and IGP, who reacted in separate statements, denied the reports, even as they pledged their resolve to ensure order and peace in the country.
