Five Dead & 65 Injured As Train Carrying 243 Derails And Rips Apart In Philadelphia


An Amtrak train crashed in Philadelphia Tuesday night prompting a mass causality incident that claimed the lives of five people. Train 188 was traveling from Washington, D.C., to New York City when it crashed around 9:20pm as it went into a turn just a few miles outside of 30th Street Station. 


The train, which had been carrying 238 passengers and five crew members at the time of the crash, had all seven cars derail - some splitting in half. In addition to the fatalities, over 65 people were injured and six were in critical condition. 'This was an absolute disastrous mess,' said Mayor Michael Nutter of Philadelphia. 'I have never seen anything like it in my life






Footage of the harrowing aftermath of the Philadelphia Amtrak crash that killed at least five people has emerged revealing distressing cries of passengers trapped in the wreckage. Posted to Instagram by Questlove's producer Yameen Allworld, a passenger on board the Amtrak train 188 from Washington DC to New York City, the unsettling video details the distressing moments immediately afterward. 

Passengers clamber over to help each other escape the overturned carriage while rescuers rush to their aid. The front of the train was going into a turn when it shook and tipped over, mangling the front of it, tearing the cars apart and killing at least five. One hundred and thirty passengers were taken to hospital, with some climbing out of windows to get away. 'We just rolled and rolled,' said one passenger who was able to escape the train quickly
