‘I knew about his plans': Buhari opens up on IBB’s 1985 coup

Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has been speaking on events leading to his ouster has the Head of State by former military president, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.
Buhari who spoke with the CableNG, an online news platform, said he knew that Babangida was planning to overthrow him.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant said he went ahead to discuss the issue with IBB before the latter went ahead to carry out the 1985 coup d’etat.
According to him, “It is true that I learnt he was planning a coup against me. And I sat and discussed it with him in my office.
“He brought the news that he went to Kano and people complained that I pulled a pistol during a council meeting. I said Ibro? I called him Ibro because I was just senior to him by a few months? I said whoever wants to sit on this chair let him come and sit here. And he decided to do it.”
Buhari who himself came into power after overthrowing a duly elected democratic government led by Alhaji Shehu Shagari said he became Head of State without bloodshed.
“But when I came in, there was no bloodshed. I think a couple of policemen were killed and [Brigadier Ibrahim] Bako also died in an ambush.
“But deliberately, nobody was killed. I was in the front, the real front in the Nigerian civil war. I had seen enough of death and I know what God means by human life. Any human being, God values their life. And anybody who hopes to meet God, he should be careful about killing.
“When there is law and due process of law took place, the question is clear. Like the cocaine convicts that were executed, the decision was taken in Supreme Military Council.”

Oil Workers Threaten To Shut Down Economy Nov. 14

The two main unions for workers in the Nigerian oil and gas industry on Friday gave the Federal Government 14 days ultimatum to intervene in the alleged victimisation of some of their colleagues by multinational oil firms or risk industrial action.
The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Natural Gas, NUPENG, workers and their counterparts in Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, issued the ultimatum at the end of their joint National Executive Council, NEC, meeting in Abuja.

A communique signed by NUPENG President, Achese Igwe, and his PENGASSAN counterpart, Francis Johnson, said government should also consider other pressing issues that were affecting the smooth operation of the country’s oil and gas industry.
According to Mr. Johnson, the unions were compelled to issue the threat to withdraw their services in the oil sector to draw government’s attention to those pressing issues in the oil sector.
He identified the issues to include the irregular transfer and sacking of national officers of the two unions by Total Nigeria and ExxonMobil; continued casualisation of labour in the industry, and violation of workers’ right to unionisation at the Export Free Zone in Rivers State.
Other issued, Mr. Johnson said, were the rising incidence of crude oil pipeline vandalism and oil theft, the non-passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, the growing state of terrorism and kidnappings in the country, non-payment of terminal benefits of workers whose appointments were terminated as well as irregular appointments inconsistent with management structure in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.
The PENGASSAN president said the decision to issue the ultimatum to government was a last resort after exhausting all avenues to resolve the issues through dialogue.
On his part, the NUPENG president said the unions were left with no better alternative than embarking on strike after the engagement with the group managing director of NNPC, Joseph Dawha, failed to resolve the issues.
Mr. Igwe said the unions also met with the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Deziani Alison-Maduekwe, the State Security Service, and the management of the affected oil firms to no avail.
The leadership of the two unions, Mr. Achese said, had pleaded with them to reverse the sacking and transfer of the union leaders in their companies without success.
The two officials called on the leadership of the National Assembly to give accelerated hearing to the PIB to ensure its passage into law as the current law establishing the NNPC had become obsolete.
Deliberations on the proposed oil industry law has lingered for the past two years without any significant progress towards its passage.
They advised the Federal Government to treat the issue of dilapidated roads leading to most of the petroleum facilities with urgency, as the loss of lives of most of their members on those roads have become most intolerable.
Besides, the unions urged the Federal Government to provide necessary facilities to upgrade the Petroleum Training Institute, PTI, Effurun, Delta State, in consonance with its approved status as Petroleum University in the country.

Boko Haram: CAN wants Jonathan to fire NSA, Defence Minister

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has slammed Minister of Defence, Lt. General Aliyu Gusau (Rtd) and National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (Rtd), over their attitudes towards the reign of insurgency in the country.
The Christian body in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Rev. Musa Asake, called for the immediate sack of the duo over their poor attitudes to work.

CAN in its statement said that recent happenings in the North-Eastern part of the country had avidly confirmed its position all along that the Islamic group had no other mission than to annihilate all Christians in the region and install an Islamic regime.
It noted that the Federal Government should do well to explain to the nation the sins committed by Azazi, who was summarily dismissed in June 2012.
“Was he sacked because of his Christian religion and to satisfy the cravings of his Muslim counterparts?”, he asked.
Asake argued that President Goodluck Jonathan appointed a Muslim, Col. Sambo Dasuki to replace Gen. Azazi, who was a Christian and later appointed another Muslim, Gen. Aliyu Gasau as Defence Minister with a pledge to deal ruthlessly with the Boko Harām Islamic terrorists.
“The major task handed down to Col. Dasuki and Gen. Gusau is to tackle Boko Haram insurgency, which was already threatening to spread into other regions of the country. But the question on the lips of every Nigerian Christian today is: what changes have these two military tacticians brought to bear since they were appointed? What is the wisdom of entrusting the nation’s security in the hands of two relations from the North West? Why have these two relations from Sokoto and Zamfara states not changed their tactics in accordance with the presidential mandate given to them to root out the insurgents in the North-East geo-political zone? Is this a game plan to eliminate people in that region and put them in perpetual subjugation?”

Assemblies of God Church expels ex-General Superintendent, other officials

The leadership crisis rocking the Assemblies of God Church in Nigeria has been laid to rest, following the dismissal and ex-communication of the former General Superintendent of the Church, Rev. Dr. Paul Emeka for alleged breach of constitution and peace of the church.
The Church also sacked and ex-communicated Raphael Itotoh, Nicholas Anyanwu, Philips Efejunti, Roland Best, Kayode Shinkale, Bulus Goni, Baba Fada and others.
They were sacked from the church during the 35th quadrennial General Meeting of the Church held yesterday at Evangel Camp along Enugu- Abakaliki Expressway, Okpoto, Ebonyi State, where the council urged Rev. Paul Emeka and others to hand over the property of Assemblies of God to the elected leaders.

The Church elected new leaders to pilot its affairs.
They include Rev. Dr. Chidi Okoroafor, the former Assistant General Superintendent as the new General Superintendent, Rev. Pastor Ejikeme Ejim Assistant General Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Godwin Amawoh (General Secretary), Rev. Dr. Vincent Alaje as General Treasurer and Rev. Scott Ennis as Chairman of NMFF and 14 other leaders.
In a motion moved by Rev. Peter Okwor from Ijebu District and seconded by Rev. Cyril Anikwe from Nnewi District, the General Council in session unanimously confirmed and ratified the decision of the General Committee on March 6 to dismiss Paul Emeka as a Pastor and suspended him as a member for taking the Church to court and breaching the constitution and bye law of Assemblies of God Nigeria.
The General Council in session also unanimously condemned all the alleged actions of Paul Emeka, namely, harassing church leaders with police and thugs, malicious and damaging publications in newspapers as well as lifting the suspension of those that breached the Assemblies of God Nigeria church.
The Council further accused the dismissed superintendent of the church of suspending undeservedly people that were not in his support, dissolving some presbyters illegally, arbitrarily and unconstitutionally, creating illegal administrative units, taking over Evangel Television and registering it in his personal name.
Rev. Emeka and the other sacked members were also accused of purportedly dissolving the Board of Trustees of Assemblies Of God Nigeria, and constituting an illegal Board of Trustees, conducting an illegal council meeting and setting aside the duly elected Executive Committee, continuing occupation of the General Council secretariat and General Superintendent residence, and tampering with function and administration of Evangel University contrary to NUC policies.
The General Council in session also unanimously commended the Executive Committee for faithfully implementing the decision of the General Committee and for standing firmly and resolving to protect the sanctity of Assemblies of God at the risk of their lives.

Rapper Says There’s A Man In Her Life

Weird MC has said that any plans of marriage on her part are in God’s hands and that she has a man in waiting.
The rapper also spoke out on her career, her dress sense and the biggest mistake she has made as a musician.
Weird MC, whose real name is Adesola Adesimbo Idowu, spoke in an interview with Vanguard.
Excerpts below:

Nothing much has been heard from you in recent times?
I am actually in the studio recording my latest songs. We have actually shot a video for one of the new songs. We are editing right now.
What would you say was the greatest mistake you have made as a singer?
I think as a musician, the moment you stepped into the spotlight, you have lost your right to privacy. That’s the only thing I can say on this matter. I am a very, very private person, but now, I have lost it to the public.
Why are you always described as a controversial singer?
I don’t know why. Sometimes, when you are different and unique, people tend to put you in a box. I don’t think I am controversial at all. I am just like everybody else. Well, that’s part of the price I have to pay as a public figure.
What’s one funny thing that has happened to you on stage?
I was performing in Lekki. Then I used to wear two rings and it happened that somebody held my hand and was dragging one of my rings from my finger. I was resisting him, but at point, I allowed him to take the ring because I didn’t want him to hurt me. It pained me because the ring was very expensive.
You have a masculine look?
I am a fit person. I hardly put on women’s clothes.
Is weird MC planning to marry sometime soon?
It’s in God’s hands.
But there is a man in your life?
Yes, there’s a man in waiting. You have to be patient.

Is Chris Brown’s Girlfriend Karrueche Tran really Pregnant? His Manager Seems to Think So

A few weeks ago is when all this drama started – with the questions of “IsKarrueche Tran pregnant?” – Chris Brown certainly did not make things easier for his fans when he went on a radio show a few days ago to state that he thinks he is at a point in his life where he just wants to settle down.
Adding fuel to the fire now is Chris Brown’s manager, who shared a picture on Instagram of himself, Chris Brown and Karrueche Tran. In the picture Karrueche is holding Chris from the back and Wackstar (his manager) has a hand on Karrueche’s stomach.
Wackstar captioned the picture, “Congratulations I hope is a boy”.
Comments on the picture have been on fire all morning but so far, that is all the world has to the question of if Karrueche Tran is pregnant or not.
There has been no confirmation from Chris Brown but he shared a picture of Karrueche on his Instagram page and captioned, “Date night with this character! People trying to hack my Instagram! “Boy if u don’t”

While it is possible that she is pregnant, it is also possible that this is a publicity stunt.
What are your thoughts?

Moses Scores First Premier League Goal in 14 Months

West Ham arrived at Stoke City yesterday fourth in the Premier League having won each of their previous three games, including a victory against champions Manchester City last weekend.

But the London club looked a shadow of that side without injured star striker Diafra Sakho and Victor Moses’ first Premier League goal in 14 months gave Mark Hughes’ side a deserved first-half lead. It was not pretty, but Moses cared little, forcing the ball over the line from close range as it fell at his feet via Bojan and Diouf, after Carl Jenkinson failed to clear Cameron’s cross.  Mame Biram Diouf added a second for the home team after the break.

Enner Valencia pulled one back on the hour mark before setting up Stewart Downing’s equaliser in the 73rd minute after Diouf had missed a great chance to seal the points for Stoke. This sparked a frantic finale as both sides pushed for a winner, but neither could find the decisive touch.  Sakho’s absence may have hampered West Ham, but the hosts also started the match without their chief attacking threat as Peter Crouch served a suspension, along with defender Phil Bardsley.

D1 & Muma Gee Join The Band

The rate at which nigerian celebrities are veering into politics and fighting for the seat of power is becoming quite alarming. It has been confirmed that award winning TV and Radio broadcaster, Dayo 'D1' Adeneye, is going for Ogun State House of Assembly, Odogbolu Constituency under APC in the 2015 elections, while singer Muma Gee is going for House of Reps, Abua/Odua and Ahoada East LGA, Rivers State under PDP.
Dayo D1 Adeneye recently released a press statement on the main reasons he took up such decision.

Part of the release reads; "History was made last weekend as one of Nigeria’s renowned entertainment guru and media baron, Otunba Adedayo Olumide Adeneye (D-One) joined the political race on a mission to rescue and rebuild the future of his people at Odogbolu Constituency of Ogun state, South West Nigeria.

The Entertainment guru and co-founder of Primetime Entertainment who is vying to be a member of the Ogun state House of Assembly under APC has been in consultations with various interest groups in his Odogbolu constituency before now.

Otunba Dayo Adeneye who has been frequently summoned by his people at the Odogbolu constituency of Ogun state finally succumbed to the yearnings of thousands of young and old people in the constituency who want him to bring forth his innovative leadership to the development of his people in Ogun state.

D-One who is coming into politics with an over two decade career which cuts across education, broadcasting and business management is seen as one of the biggest assets for the much desired “Change” that has become the lead philosophy of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party in Ogun state and the entire country.

Acceding to the demand of his people last weekend during a meeting with leaders of thought and youth in Odogbolu constituency of Ogun state, D-One said “The invitation is an invitation to service and I am quite humbled to bring back home the entire knowledge I have garnered around the world, to change and lead. To whom much is given, much is equally expected and because my root is here I am ready to sacrifice my all for service”.

As the list continues to add up, entertainment loving Nigerians can't help but fold hands in akimbo with heads bowed low as the impact of those crossing over to politics would be felt heavily in all the genres of entertainment industry during the forthcoming festive period.

Boko Haram Take-Over Of Mubi: Military Role Suspicious, Jonathan Not Worth Commander-In-Chief Title – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the recent Boko Haram overrun of Mubi and the hoisting of their flag in Adamawa State’s second largest town, as a tragic act and a worrisome affront to the corporate integrity of Nigeria.
Mr. Abubakar, who was abroad when the attack took place in his home State on Wednesday, 29 October, told a group of journalists on arrival on Friday that: “with what I have gathered so far from online news reports and other sources from Mubi town, the situation is very unfortunate and undermining for our country”.

“If the reports are true that the Armed Forces had abandoned their assigned duty posts a few days before the overrun, it was an indication that the attack was not sudden after all. If the Soldiers also left behind their ammunition and armoured carriers at the mercy of predatory insurgents, it raises a question of complicity in the sordid episode”, he said.
He described as most unfortunate a situation where unsuspecting civilians who had relied on security agencies for their protection and were expecting an improvement in their security status as a result of the announced Ceasefire, were suddenly left defenceless and at the mercy of the marauders.
Mr. Abubakar frowned at the suspected connivance that might have fuelled the sudden retreat of the military in the face of imminent invasion of a vital commercial town, less than three hours away from Yola the Adamawa State capital.
“No Commander-in-Chief or General that is worth his salt will surrender his territory with folded arms and running heels”, Mr. Abubakar said.
“On every occasion that leaders from the North East raised an alarm about the dangerous trend, we have either been ignored or called names”, he recalled.
“If there’s any iota of truth in the suspicion of the people that they were deliberately abandoned, then it becomes a dangerous trend and a bad omen for Nigeria and all Nigerians”, he said.
The former vice president said he is heading to Yola to meet with those managing the displaced people and see what assistance he can render to reduce the sufferings of the people.

Gospel singer, Benita Okojie has cleared the air on allegations of bleaching which has been trending for a while now on social medias. The “We Ose” crooner who began her foray into music at age 12 said “You know it’s funny that people think I am bleaching because someone still mentioned it on social media a few days back. The truth is I have always been fair. I’ve never bleached.

I don’t know why people think otherwise. Google my childhood pictures and see for yourself. Ladies please be comfortable in your skin. God did not create a mistake in you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Don’t settle for bleaching cream. It will damage your skin eventually. Be confident, bold and rock that beautiful skin God has given to you. Black, white or tan.”

Recounting how the current state of the nation inspired her recently released track, ‘Jesu n’Abba’ she said “Jesu n’Abba means ‘Jesus my Father, it is dawn, please protect me in your mercies today/tonight’.

“The security situation in Nigeria and the world inspired the song. It got to a point where mothers would go to bed without an idea where their sons/daughters were and reports like this made my heart ache terribly. And when your heart aches and you go on twitter to express how you feel but still see breaking news of abduction, killing, etc somewhere in the world, you realize that there’s a lot to be grateful to God for and your intercession should go beyond 140 characters or less. Stop tweeting and start talking to The One who has supreme control of the events of the world.

“The song is a heartfelt request to God for divine protection”.
