John Mikel Obi wants to quit Chelsea, after failing to nail down a regular shirt last season, according to Sky Sports.
The Nigeria international started 18 games in the Premier League, as the Blues clinched the Championship.
Manager Jose Mourinho has opted to use Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas just in front of his defence. At other times, the Portuguese tactician has called up Ramires or even Kourt Zouma.
Ghana star Asamoah Gyan, has already disclosed that the midfielder is close to agreeing a deal to join him at UAE club Al Ain.
Gyan told Metro TV (via the National): “I heard it this week that he has agreed terms with Al Ain and will most definitely be playing for us next season. It’s great news for us because Mikel Obi is a very good player and very experienced.
“It will be exciting playing with him in the same team, because I believe both of us, with the help of our other colleagues, can do more for the club”.
Chelsea are yet to comment on the transfer, but it is understood that the player has been told he will remain at the club ahead of next season.
Mikel Obi, who moved to Stamford Bridge in 2006, has made 64 appearances for the Super Eagles.
