Nigeria Police Arrest Robbers In Benin

AN alleged deserter of the Nigerian Army, simply identified as Lance Corporal Adegoke, has been arrested for armed robbery in Benin, Edo State capital.

Adegoke, said to have served in 29 Battalion, Nigeria Army in Port Harcourt, said he deserted the Army after he was posted to Maiduguri to fight Boko Haram.

The Army deserter, who was arrested along with two members of his gang, were alleged to have been terrorising residents of Ikpoba Hill, Upper Mission and environs.

Adegoke was said to have abandoned his unit and left with military rifle and uniform with which he formed the robbery gang.

Edo State police spokesman, DSP Stephen Onwochei, said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

He said since the suspect had left the Army, he would be treated as a civilian.
