Jonathan effects minor shake-up in federal cabinet


President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday tinkered with his cabinet as he directed Dr. Nurudeen Mohammed to take over as the Supervising Minister of Information to fill the gap created by the resignation of the former Minister, Labaran Maku. Dr. Nurudeen is the Minister of State II, for Foreign Affairs.

Mohammed spoke to State House Correspondents at the end of Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Jonathan.


According to Mohammed, the Minister of State I, Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri is to take over as the substantive Minister of State, Education to fill the vacuum created by the departure of Mr. Nyesom Wike while the Minister of Special Duties, Taminu Turaki (SAN) will act as the Supervising Minister of Labour and Productivity.
For position left by Lagos PDP governorship hopeful, Musiliu Obanikoro, Mohammed said the president directed the Minister of Defence, Gen. Aliyu Guasu to combine his duties with those of the Minister of State, Defence.
Mohammed further said the President directed the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, to combine his duties with those of the Minister of State.
Dr. Khaliru Alhassan, who is the Minister of State for Health is to take over the function of the Health Minister for the time being, while Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Dr Steven Oru, will oversee the affairs of the Minister of State of the ministry.
